Description

We found these...things...near our living place. First we only saw one of them but after a while we found a second one, close to the first object. They were covered with dust but now, after we have cleaned them, they look as if they were new. We don't have an idea what kind of machine they could be but after a while they started to work, or at least it seems so. Lights were flashing and some of them are still glowing. It seems that they use some kind of unknown power as energy source, stored within the blue spheres.

Now, what should we do?...maybe these things are dangerous...I'd love to know what purpose they might have...?

Finally I have the time to upload this one. It started as an attempt on realistic texturing and lighting but it soon turned out that I simply suck at texturing. It takes so much time and is pretty boring and so I don't really take my time to create proper materials and maps.
However, the modelling was quite fun and I really kept the model simple. I went for a "realistic" look this time and at the same time I wanted to make as few textures as possible, that's pretty much why the model (and especially the scene) isn't very complex.
Nevertheless, the rendering times were real killers. Or they would have been real killers if I had rendered at the resolution that I wanted to render. But I had to realize that a nice 3000x3000 render would take quite a few hours to render and at the moment I don't have the time patiently wait for that (especially since this is a composition of a lot of different renderpasses...).
I also tried myself on a different modelling style this time and implemented the use of subsurf. It isn't really visible here but I tried to work with subsurf this time, too, and see how it works with mechanic models. I'll definitely make even more use of it in the future.

Programs used: Blender / Yafray / PS CS 2
Textures: mostly found at mayang.com/textures
Time: too much, as usual ;)

Well, I do hope you like it...so let me hear what you think about it!
